It’s been 8 months since we first paired our HERA women with their new mentors. Since then its been amazing to witness their transformation, and the growing pride the women have of their relationship with their mentors.
The mentoring relationship is one of the biggest positives we hear from the women, when looking back on their time with HERA. It is also great to see, that the women aren’t the only ones getting something out of the relationship; mentors have also found themselves learning from their mentees.
Despite all the positives, being a mentor on the HERA programme does have its challenges. HERA are always looking for ways to make sure that the mentors are also getting as much from their relationships as their mentees. So in January, we put on a mentor training session, as a follow up to the training we had given last year.
Some mentors tend to find themselves doubting their effectiveness as a mentor. The session was a chance for mentors to discuss with their peers what was working well with their mentee, also any issues that they may have faced during their time as a mentor.
The session was well received by everyone involved. The mentors went away with a better understanding of their mentoring relationships, plus new tools to tackle any obstacles they may face in the future.
It should never be underestimated the positive effect a mentor has on these women’s lives. By having someone there, to offer advice and moral support in regards to their business and professional career ambitions, is priceless in their eyes.
Below are a few quotes from mentors who have taken part in the mentoring programme:
‘I have been able to gain a lot more experience when it comes to mentoring someone from a challenged back-ground’
‘I found the experience to be both fulfilling and a good challenge. I was also able to learn a lot from my protégé as well’
‘I’m delighted and often humbled to be participating’
Providing mentors to the women is just one aspect of what HERA offers. Through your donations, we've been given the opportunity to support some of our women's journeys through new business equipment to course applications. When combined, it make a massive difference in helping the women achieve their dream - so Thank You Again for all your support!
At the moment, we are currently in the process of recruiting new mentors for 2012-13 programme. If you are interested in applying, plesse check out our website for more information and download packs.
