Project update

By Samuel Chigamba | Executive Director

Dear Supporter

We hope this report finds you in good health. I am writing to share an update on our project Epilepsy Training for Clinicians. Since the last report shared with you in July this year, we successfully sent out certificates of attendance for the Epilepsy Assessment and Management Course 6.0 to all the health practitioners that registered for the course through Epilepsy Warriors Foundation.

Additionally, I am thrilled to inform you that we coordinated the 5th Annual African Education in Headache to healthcare professionals in Malawi on the 16th of August 2025, this was a one-day virtual training, more information about this training can be found on our social media page.

We value and appreciate your continued support towards our project. We would like to share with you a story so that you can see first hand the difference your support makes.

Meet Takondwa (Not Real Name), she is currently a mental health nurse working with one of the central hospitals in Malawi and has over 30 years’ experience working as a health practitioner. Takondwa attended the Epilepsy Assessment and Management course 4.0 in the year 2023 and one of the topics she learnt was Assessing, Diagnosing, and Managing Tuberous Sclerosis complex (TSC) and associated epilepsy co-morbidity, this was her first time learning about the topic. She had never heard of it before. A few weeks after she had leant about Tuberous Sclerosis, Takondwa was able to identify a person with epilepsy who  has Tuberous Sclerosis complex (TSC) and referred them to a neurologist to get the help that they need.

This example shows why training health practitioners matters. It helps them provide better care. Persons with epilepsy benefit through improved diagnosis and support.
