Our children and youth have lost 5,120 hours of class due to the hurricanes, earthquakes and pandemic Puerto Rico has endured in the past three years. Living in vulnerable communities, BGCPR participants are experiencing more inequalities than ever. To bridge the gap, we are providing virtual academic and socioemotional support, meals and free internet access. A small donation now will bring the certainty of better futures and will help them succeed over time.
Nearly 90% of children attending Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico programs live under poverty, with 59% living in families with annual incomes of $5,000 or less. After COVID-19, their access to quality education, a support system and lifelong learning opportunities is at more risk than ever. To reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens, they need tools that drive them to success and prosperity.
With your help, we will address the education and social gaps our children and youth face while living in inequality and uncertainty after the consecutive crises experienced during the last three-years in Puerto Rico. As we support their immediate needs with virtual programming and other life-enhancing services, we prepare to reopen our Clubs, where children and youth feel emotionally and physically safe, develop healthy adult connections, experience a sense of belonging and are recognized.
Reducing the education and opportunity gaps while providing a social support system will empower our participants to champion equality and face poverty. This project is an effective long-term investment in future citizens and leaders by participating in the transformation of their families, communities and the global economy.
