The project aims to equip Mhondoro Ngezi physically challenged people with textile development skills as well as the establishment of a cottage industry that will create employment for 200 underprivileged and marginalized especially women and girls. Through entrepreneurship workshops, business management skills will be developed to mitigate poverty caused by drought and reduce stigmatization experienced by disability and enable them to live a normal life just like anybody else.
People with disabilities faces myriad of challenges in their life. These include unemployment, poverty, unplanned pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections. The problem is prevalent in Mashonaland West Province where 90% are unskilled and unemployed making it very difficulty for those disabled to compete with those non-challenged for work which becomes a mammoth task and therefore it is a situation which needs urgent addressing to enable equal opportunities for all.
The provision of skills to the disabled women and girls, will enhance their capacities to produce and ensure food at the tables of their families. The establishment of a cottage industry in Mhondoro Ngezi which is prone to drought causing reduced agricultural production which is a livelihood for the community, will substitute and beef up on employment creation and reduce the dependence syndrome on agriculture. It is envisaged that the project will produce affordable school uniforms and clothing.
With the involvement of all stakeholders in Mhondoro Ngezi especially the the Rural District Council as well as support from the community in general, sustainability is ensured to allow for growth to impact on the whole community as the project participants will become trainers themselves the Cottage becoming a vocational Training Centre creating more employment and a cultural hub for tourism as its products are biased towards tourism with a global outreach through digitized marketing.
