Training Workers to Respond When Every Second Coun

By Liudmyla Korol | Communication Officer

As part of our ongoing Save the Workers initiative, Mission Kharkiv continued to strengthen emergency readiness among employees of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

In September, our team conducted 8 first aid training sessions for workers of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) in Kharkiv region. A total of 114 employees successfully completed the program. These sessions were held directly at their workplaces, allowing participants to train in real-life conditions and better understand how to react during emergencies.

A significant focus of the training was placed on Stop the Bleed techniques — practical, hands-on skills that help control severe bleeding and stabilize a person before professional medical assistance arrives. Workers learned how to apply tourniquets, use trauma bandages, provide basic trauma care, and act decisively when every second matters.

This knowledge is especially vital for railway staff who continue to work under constant risk due to ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure. Their resilience keeps transportation functioning, supports logistics, and ensures that essential systems continue to operate — and our goal is to help protect their lives while they protect the country’s stability.

Thanks to the support of our partners and donors, more workers are now better prepared to save lives in emergency situations. Together, we are building a safer, more resilient workforce for Ukraine.
