Equip 30 licensed fishing vessels with VHF radios, GPS, and emergency beacon locators-lifesaving tools that ensure swift rescue in emergencies. Barbuda's fishers risk their lives daily to sustain our community, yet many face danger without essential safety gear. This initiative is about saving lives! Support us in protecting those who power our blue economy and prevent needless tragedies at sea.
Barbuda's fishers face life-threatening risks due to a lack of essential safety equipment. Yet, daily, they venture into open waters without VHF radios, GPS, or emergency beacons-critical tools that enable swift rescue in emergencies. In unpredictable sea conditions, a simple breakdown or sudden storm can turn fatal. The absence of these lifesaving devices has led to delayed search efforts, and, in some cases, tragic losses. Without immediate intervention, our fishing community remains at risk.
By providing these essential tools, the project will reduce search-and-rescue times, prevent tragedies, and ensure every fisher has an increased probability of a safer journey home. VHF radios provide direct communication with the coast guard and nearby vessels in case of distress. GPS devices help fishers navigate safely and allow rescuers to pinpoint their location quickly. Emergency beacon locators send SOS signals, enabling rapid response in life-threatening situations.
This project will create a safer, more resilient fishing industry in Barbuda. Thereby, reducing the risk of fatalities and improving emergency response times. Fewer Lost Fishers, Enhanced Maritime Safety Culture, Community Peace of Mind and Stronger Blue Economy. This initiative lays the foundation for a future where no fisher is left stranded at sea, making ocean livelihoods more secure for generations to come.
