Refurbishments at the Resource Centre - 1

By Laura Albertyn | Chief Operations Officer

We were thrilled with the incredible response to our campaign and all the money that was raised.  Thank you for your generous contributions to it.

This is our 1st report on the progress of the expenditure of the money raised.

We were fundraising for the following:

  • Blankets
  • Pillows
  • Mattresses
  • Solar Hot water heaters
  • Conversion of the kitchen to boys shower block
  • Ping pong table
  • Drop down roll down blinds

Once all work has been completed on the Resource Centre from the funds raised from this campaign a more detailed financial report will follow.  The excess raised for this campaign will go towards our University Grant Scheme and pay for the university tuition fees for our students.

Here is a report on each of these areas and the progress made so far:

  1. Blankets – these were very kindly donated to us by a Zimbabwean who had seen our campaign and wanted to help where they could.
  2. Pillows – we have purchased the new Pillows and have passed our old pillows (even though well worn) onto homeless people who will appreciate them very much.
  3. Mattresses – we have placed an order for 20 new water proof (rexin) mattresses and we are awaiting their arrival.
  4. Solar hot water heaters  – due to the campaign exceeding our expectations, we have bought a total of three solar hot water heaters.  One for the girls, one for the boys and one small one for the kitchen.  These are being fitted as I write this report.
  5. Conversion of the kitchen to boys shower block - The outside kitchen is currently being converted into a boys shower block.  The work is expected to be finished by the end of the week.  It will have two toilets, three showers and two basins.  The photos below show the conversion work starting.
  6. Ping Pong Table – this was donated to us by a Zimbabwean who had seen our campaign and wanted to help where they could.  The students are enjoying getting to know the game!
  7. Drop down roller blinds on the verandah – the order will be placed for these towards the end of September.

A big, big thank you to all of you for making these improvements a reality.  This house will see many lives changed, providing a place of refuge for many, many students. This project will no longer be running on GlobalGiving.
