Challenge

4570 children living in ikere community are experiencing stalled education. They lack access to quality primary education. Ikere is an off-grid community, without access to electricity for lighting homes&small businesses. Prior COVID-19 pandemic, ikere community had no functional primary school for education of children in the community, the only government school in the community is underfunded &has been closed down for more than twenty-four months, due to none payment of teachers' salaries.

Solution

This project will establish a community based virtual open education resource center, providing 250 vulnerable out-of-school children access to all time low cost equitable and quality primary education on a pay as you learn model (as low as 10 -20 cent per day learning). The project will strengthen the capacity of 50 young civil society leaders on data driven accountability and transparency in the educational sector, for citizen participation in policy development and project implementation.

Long-Term Impact

This project will serve as a model for tackling the problem of high number of out of school children in Nigeria. it will empower pupils with hand-eye coordination and motor skills, it will improve their problem skills and arm them with competencies needed to become positive roles in their community. It will give young girls a voice and platform to tell their stories of surviving various forms of gender-based violence, and become part of advocating for girl child education and empowerment.
