VHSO prepare a Project which will take place at Arusha DC.The Project will provide education to Clan leader,Women who perform FGM,Village Executive and Students.This will be done together with Doctors ,Nurses due to medical issues that go with it. This Region is practiced FGM to children under 5 yrs for the aim of treating U.T.I and Girls with the age of 7 to 10 years on their transition to Adulthood,Also practice to Infancy baby as its a secret between mother and local experts.
FGM at Arusha DC is done by using knife or razor blade which is Intensely Painful,Life threatening complications are hemorrhaging, blood poisoning and tetanus.The risk of HIV/AIDS transmission is increased,psychological distress and Chronic infection from shared cutting instruments Others are genital scarring which can obstruct childbirth, causing permanent injury even death.Women may suffer feelings of anxiety, depression and frigidity. Sexual dysfunction may be the Cause for marital conflict
By giving awareness to Women who perform FGM, Village Clan leaders,Executive leaders, School girls on the Impact of FGM this will help the society to get rid of that culture which oppress women and also by educating students at school will help them understand their rights and fight for it also through this project we will work with the Government Closely and get the statistics which will enable the Government to employ more resources in solving the problem.
By doing this project we expect to reduce the number of children undergo FGM also reduce number of Women died due to FGM,Reduce HIV/AIDS transmission,Increase awareness to school girls on their rights,Provision of medical treatment to girls who have Cervical Cancer early,Get clear statistics on the number of girls undergo FGM. Also we can create a network which can give support to one another in case the challenges arises after the project period.
