Dear Friends of educate.,

With this report, the first stage of the Esperanza en la Oscuridad (Hope in the Shaodws) exhibitions come to a close!

In “Hope in the Shadows,” painter and activist Rita Andrade explores the deep-rooted social issues that young people face in Honduras, and the hopes that keep the country’s youth moving forwards. All funds raised through the sale of the paintings will be donated to the grassroots Honduran NGO educate., who work to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged children and young people in Honduras. The exhibition therefore aims not only to raise awareness, but to support tangible change in the lives of Honduran youth.

In January we travelled to Tegucigalpa for the opening of the “Esperanza en la Oscuridad” art exhibition and fundraiser by Rita Andrade in support of our work, held at the Casa Quinchon in the city center.

Aside from being a great project, it was also an opportunity to involve our scholars in a new learning experience! We visited our partners at Museo Chiminike to share our student-written and illustrated book “Leer es Soñar,” went to the city’s Central Park, and our students were interviewed by journalists who came to cover the event.

You can find out mroe about the project here: https://esperanzaenlaoscuridad.com/

More exhibitions will follow. Many thanks to all who attended, purchased paintings, and came to speak with us! Your support makes our work possible, and we are so grateful.

Kind Regards,

Antonia
