Over 200 girls in Niger State could discover their future as tech innovators-but only if given the right start. This project launches ten after-school coding clubs for girls aged 10-14, led by female mentors using Scratch and other visual programming tools. Through hands-on coding, problem-solving, and collaboration, girls will gain digital confidence, spark creativity, and envision STEM careers, laying the foundation for Nigeria's next generation of innovators.
Cultural and educational barriers in Niger State steer girls away from STEM from a young age. Without early exposure, girls self-select out of tech, limiting career opportunities and perpetuating gender inequality. This gap reduces innovation potential nationwide and keeps talented girls from contributing to Nigeria's growing tech economy. Early intervention is crucial to break this cycle and empower young women for the jobs of the future.
We will establish ten after-school coding clubs equipped with laptops, projectors, and interactive learning resources. Female mentors will lead hands-on coding sessions, teaching problem-solving, logic, creativity, and presentation skills. Girls will collaborate virtually in an annual "Girls Hackathon," building community and peer support. The structured, engaging curriculum ensures measurable learning outcomes and creates a scalable model for lasting impact.
By 2027, this program will create a pipeline of 200 tech-confident girls who see themselves in STEM careers. Participants will gain computational thinking, creativity, and leadership skills, boosting educational and career opportunities. Increased female enrollment in computer science programs and a more diverse tech workforce will inspire the next generation, amplifying social and economic impact while reshaping Niger State's STEM landscape.
