Summary

Less than half of Cameroon is forested. Almost 1% is lost annually due to population increase and its over dependency on the natural resources of the forest for their survival. At this alarming rate of deforestation, the next generation may not have a forest to interact with at all. With your help, 20 kids will plant and care for 100 indigenous fruit tree seeds. Within 3 to 5 years and with the right care and attention they will grow, just like the 20 Ecokids to become big, strong and fruitful.

Challenge

According to the U.N. FAO, 42.1% of Cameroon is forested. Of these forest cover, 1% is lost annually due to population increase and over dependency on natural resources for survival. At this alarming deforestation rate, if care is not taken the next generation will not live to see and interact with the forest. Our current generation is responsible for climate change and continuous degradation of the environment yet, still reluctant to take urgent action to preserve a safe earth for our children.

Solution

We believe that children as young as 5 have the capacity to champion a new course for a greener healthier planet, while creating a long-term source of income for their families. With your help we will plant 100 indigenous apple tree seeds. Within 3 to 5 years and with the right care and attention they will grow, just like the 20 EcoKids, to become big, strong and fruitful. By locating our 1st Eco-Kids Orchard in a local school, young environmental ambassadors can help nurture the trees.

Long-Term Impact

By locating our 1st Eco-Kids Orchard in a local school, young environmental ambassadors can help nurture the trees while learning how and why we all should care for the environment, grow food crops, minimize and manage household waste, practice conservation and encourage biodiversity.
