This project will provide micro loans, literacy and numeracy classes and in-depth agricultural, husbandry and business training to 832 low-caste mountain women in Nepal.
Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, and women in Nepal routinely suffer from lack of access to education and income. Nepalese low-caste mountain women are the most likely to be subject to crippling poverty and exclusion. Working with already-established ETC Women's Groups, ETC will provide 832 low-caste mountain women with the funds and skills necessary to provide for their families and dramatically improve the future for themselves, their children, and their community.
ETC will provide women with micro loans, literacy classes, numeracy and record-keeping instruction, agriculture training and supplies, husbandry training (goats, buffalo, cows and chickens), and small business/retail training (tea shops, inns, etc.).
The project will directly benefit 832 Nepalese women (and as many as 4,000 family members) allowing them to break the cycle of extreme poverty and malnutrition, gain a sense of self-worth and provide for their families' health and well-being.
