Even Ground strives to help families and communities break the cycles of poverty and inequality by providing support to community-based programs that offer high-quality education and care to young people in Africa. Even Ground currently supports over 700 children ages 2-24 at one site in Uganda and three sites in South Africa, in some of the poorest communities in these countries. Even Ground's projects address issues of poverty, poor-quality education, limited healthcare, and malnutrition.
UNAIDS estimates that to date, 14 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. Even Ground's projects aim to address the needs of young people impacted by the epidemic. Because the areas where we work are affected not only by the HIV epidemic, but also by poverty, unemployment, and longstanding inequality, our programs aim not only to provide an education for young people, but also to support families and communities to strengthen local networks of care.
Even Ground has brought together a group of small, like-minded organizations, all started by young social entrepreneurs, to address the impacts of the HIV epidemic on children and youth. Even Ground works to facilitate the operations of these projects, and to cultivate a network of support and collaboration between them. Unlike larger organizations, our partnership model allows for local ownership and local innovation in each of our partner project's program sites.
Even Ground's partner projects have each developed unique models of education support and care for young people and families in communities affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty. Our projects work hand-in-hand with local organizations in each of these communities to ensure that support is sustainable, locally-appropriate, and organic to the community. Together, we are transforming young lives that will one day transform the world.
