Today, we are excited to share the inspiring story of Víctor, a young teacher from Lima who faced a unique challenge during his first year as a Professional at Enseña Perú in School 40395 in Cota Cota, Caylloma, Arequipa.
Upon arriving, Víctor discovered that his students, who were about to finish primary school, did not know how to count or perform basic math operations. Instead of feeling discouraged, he decided to tackle this challenge with creativity, combining his passion for teaching with a deep respect for local culture.
Víctor devised an innovative project that merged Quipus, an ancient Incan tool, with the Singapore Math Method to teach mathematics. With the support of parents and the school community, he developed this project over eight months, helping his students not only learn math but also reconnect with their cultural heritage.
This effort was recognized with the FONDEP (National Fund for the Development of Peruvian Education) award, and the Quipus project has since been implemented throughout the school, improving the math skills of all students starting from the first grade.
But Víctor didn't stop there. He also created a radio program and a TV corner where his students could express themselves and dream big. His commitment to education has left a lasting impact on the community, proving that with innovation and dedication, it is possible to transform educational realities.
At Enseña Perú, we are committed to inspiring more stories like Víctor's, working together to provide quality education to all students in the country. Thank you for being part of this mission and supporting young educators like Víctor as they strive to change the world for the better!
