As the year comes to a close, we wanted to celebrate a story that reminds us why learning—and imagination—matter so much. In Tambogrande, Piura, teacher Sahara discovered a powerful way to help her students reconnect with reading, writing, and their own creativity.

At the start of the school year, Sahara noticed that many of her students struggled with reading comprehension and felt little motivation to write. So she began with something simple: listening. In their conversations, she learned that her students loved movies—the characters, the colors, the worlds that came alive on a screen.

One afternoon, while watching WALL·E together, she saw something shift: her students were fully engaged, asking questions, imagining possibilities. That spark of curiosity inspired an idea that would transform the classroom.

Sahara invited her students to turn the room into a movie theater—one they would create themselves. They chose their favorite characters, invented new powers, and wrote stories in which they were the heroes protecting the planet. Their drawings became film strips on long rolls of paper. With Sahara’s guidance, they built a “magic box” to project their movies and hosted screenings for their classmates.

Each film carried a message: caring for the Earth, valuing water, recycling, and protecting nature. Families joined the excitement too, helping gather recycled materials to bring the characters and scenes to life.

Little by little, their confidence grew. Reading and writing stopped being a challenge and became a source of joy. Students who once felt unsure now proudly shared their ideas, their voices, and their stories.

In Tambogrande, a small classroom cinema became a space where imagination turned into action—and where a teacher’s belief in her students helped every child discover the power of creativity and learning.

At school 15018 in Piura, something extraordinary is taking root. Teacher Cinthya has transformed a simple idea into a powerful experience for her students: a hydroponic greenhouse where science, teamwork, and emotions flourish side by side.

Five classrooms are now part of this living laboratory. Here, students don’t just read about science—they live it. They plant, nurture, and harvest, learning how to grow food sustainably while also cultivating collaboration and resilience. Through their “Scientific Emotions Journal,” each child reflects on what they feel at every step of the process, turning each seedling into a lesson in both knowledge and self-awareness.

Parents have joined this adventure too, bringing their energy and support, while engineers from the University of Piura guide the technical aspects. What began as a school project has blossomed into a symbol of innovation and community.
