Human trafficking ranks as the fastest growing & second largest criminal enterprise in the world and generates approximately $150.2 billion worldwide. Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center has recently received a Federal Grant to help build advocacy and direct support services to survivors of Human Trafficking in Northwest Indiana, but we need your help!
According to the Trafficking in Persons Report produced by the State Department, approximately 27 million men, women & children are victims of some form of human trafficking. Human trafficking happens when adults & children are extorted to work or provide services using force, fraud, or coercion and it includes labor and sex trafficking. A U.S. Justice Department study found that 83% of sex trafficking victims identified in the U.S. were American citizens.
In 2019, Fair Haven served two identified victims of human trafficking. Revealing that many victims are coming forward for services that do not identify as victims of human trafficking, or are unaware they are. It is our hope that we will be able to train additional staff members, our allied professionals, and educate our community of the 'red flags' to identify the signs of human trafficking. We will provide services so that survivors in our community, will not 'fall through the cracks'.
Fair Haven will be able to accurately and effectively identify survivors of human trafficking in our community, provide them with the appropriate resources, and get them into a safe, secure home. Our end goal is to open a fully-functioning day center for survivors, equipped with individual and support group services, case management, life skills, and additional work and educational resources. We hope that we can expand to reach every survivor in the Northwest Indiana community.
