On his way to work, Ahmed is often judged by his name and faith before he speaks. Across Southeast and South-South Nigeria, many Muslims face suspicion, exclusion, and harassment simply for who they are. This project will promote understanding, dialogue, and protection so people of all faiths can live, work, and worship without fear or discrimination.
Islamophobia fuels stigma, misinformation, and social exclusion in the Southeast and South-South parts of Nigeria. Muslims may face profiling, hate speech, barriers to services, and community mistrust, especially during times of insecurity. These divisions deepen fear, weaken social cohesion, and expose women and youth to discrimination and violence.
We will counter Islamophobia through interfaith dialogue, community education, media awareness, and legal support for victims of discrimination. By engaging religious leaders, youth, and educators, we promote empathy, challenge stereotypes, and build bridges, helping communities replace fear with facts and mutual respect.
Our long-term goal is inclusive Nigerian communities where people are respected regardless of faith. We aim to reduce religious discrimination, strengthen interfaith cooperation, and empower local peace champions so future generations grow up valuing diversity and resolving differences peacefully.
