The late season rains have returned to rural NE Uganda and should help considerably to produce better crops. I will be there in early December to see how things are going firsthand. They were very promising when I was there in May. Good crops are so important to these villagers because they are the main source of their food for the year. We continue to raise funds to purchase a new tractor to replace the 20 year old one they have now. Thank you for your ongoing support!
There are 15,000 Karamojong living in the villages we are working with. They are learning to become farmers and keeping fewer cattle in order to live in peace and move away from the generations of cattle rustling and killing. But they have only the basic hand tools to work the hundreds of acres they have. They need better equipment to be able to more effectively plant their crops before the rain comes.
This project will allow the tribe to better prepare the soil and plant their crops more quickly when they know the rains are coming. It will also help them to harvest their crops more quickly and get them to market in a more timely fashion.
This project will help in a huge way with food security for all of the tribe. It will also have the potential to give they excess crops to sell to improve their standard of living.
