Report

By Charles Ngiela | Project Leader

Dear Prayer partners and Friends,

We are indeed grateful to all Donors, Prayer partners for your continued support. Even before the onset of a global pandemic, deaf children/community were grappling with rapid, disoriented change. The COVID-19 pandemic, with its public health emergency and economic and social crises, has reshaped how development priorities and operations work.

We are thankful for your donations that has enabled us to make COVID-19 clear Face mask for deaf since the usual face masks is a hinderance to hearing impaired persons and hard of hearing community. Face masks are spreading as a coronavirus mitigation measure, but it’s leaving out a large population of the deaf and hard of hearing. Face masks affect everyone in the deaf and hard of hearing community, deaf people rely on sign language but still need facial expressions for a full understanding of what is being communicated, and those with hearing aids or cochlear implants rely on lip-reading to better understand what is being heard. Anyone with lower hearing losses will have further difficulty with muffled speech.
Not only do they make communication during the pandemic inaccessible, they further alienate the deaf population, which can already feel left out. The facial coverings are increasingly worn by essential workers and public service providers, whereas communication has to be understandable:click the link to see how your donation has empowered our effort in supporting deaf in Kenya. Umoja tailors making masks with plastic windows for the hearing impaired

We have worked tirelessly to sensitize the deaf community on COVID19 pandemic for them to stay at home, and respond swiftly to prioritize their health and safety.

We are appealing you once again, supporters and prayer partners and friends to come forward to support us financial and emotional support for the COVID19 pandemic.

As Kenya school reopens  unprecedented challenge has emerged to children’s education and well-being. We must prioritize deaf children’s learning. This means making sure that schools are safe to reopen  including with access to hand hygiene, clear face for effective communication, clean drinking water and safe sanitation. Even before the onset of a global pandemic, societies were grappling with rapid, disorienting change. Our special appeal to you! Bring us up in your conversation. We’d love to hear the story about why you’ve picked our project. Click the link below to support and to enable accomplish our mission!  http://goto.gg/46536
