Dear Friends and Supporters,

Warm greetings to you all. We hope that 2025 has been kind to you and your families.

On behalf of our entire team, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. Your generosity enables us to pursue our mission of uplifting vulnerable deaf children, youths, and women in Homa Bay County and surrounding areas. With an estimated deaf population of over 50,000, your support continues to make a meaningful impact on a community that often remains underserved.

Progress Over the Last Six Months

Despite the global social and economic challenges, we remained committed to creating sustainable, long-term solutions for the communities we serve.

In the past six months, we initiated an organic farming program to improve food security for deaf children, elderly caregivers, and vulnerable families. The project includes:

  • Cultivation of vegetables and staple crops using organic methods
  • Rearing of small livestock to enhance nutrition
  • Use of biological and natural soil-enhancing materials, avoiding synthetic fertilizers
  • Promotion of sustainable land management to maintain soil fertility and reduce pollution
  • Training deaf youths in modern organic farming skills, empowering them with livelihood opportunities

This initiative has already shown promise in reducing food costs at our centers, improving the quality of meals provided, and equipping young people with practical skills that foster independence.

Challenges Faced

The past months have not been without difficulties. Due to safety concerns and financial constraints, we were forced to prematurely close one of our centers and scale down some outreach activities. These decisions, while necessary for the protection of our staff and the children, have unfortunately affected several of our pupils who rely heavily on our services.

Nevertheless, we remain committed to ensuring that no deaf child is left behind. The organic farming project is one of the ways we are working to sustain our programs despite these challenges.

How You Can Continue to Help

During difficult times, our unity becomes even more important. We kindly ask you to continue standing with us and to help spread the word about our work.

You can support us by:

  • Sharing our GlobalGiving project link  https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/farming-to-feed/  with your friends, family, or on social media
  • Telling your community why this project matters to you
  • Encouraging others to join in supporting deaf youths and vulnerable families

Your voice and advocacy mean as much to us as your donations. Every share, every conversation, every contribution—no matter how small—helps us move closer to a sustainable future for deaf children and their families.

In Gratitude

Thank you once again for your unwavering support, generosity, and belief in our mission. We look forward to continuing this journey with you and sharing more progress in the coming months.

With warm regards and deep appreciation,

Lavenda Awuor
