Summary

Throughout our "Fathers as Caregivers" campaign, Fathering Together is training dads to see themselves as caregivers for their children and to translate the skills that make them successful at work into their homelife. These skills include leadership, communication, emotional intelligence, and program management. By engaging in 1-on-1 coaching and small group virtual workshops, we support dads in building more gender equitable homes through active engagement with their families.

Challenge

In the United States, the pandemic has seen a huge exodus of women from the workforce to provide care for their children. This leaves men to be primary breadwinners and can lead to gender inequities in the home. We know providing childcare can be transformational for fathers, but without proper education and community support, social stigmas and barriers will remain. Through our Fatherhood Core 5 coaching, we aim to empower fathers to be caregivers and bring about gender equity at home.

Solution

Through a combination of 1-on-1 coaching, group support, and public conversations, Fathering Together will: 1. provide parenting skills trainings for dads 2. create communities of support for dads to share their stories 3. empower dads to see that the skills they have gained in the workforce can be applied and translated into the home.

Long-Term Impact

Studies show that everyone benefits when fathers are active and engaged in the home. Children do better in school, are more resilient, and form healthier relationships throughout life. Parents find deeper connection and have less tension when tasks are evenly distributed. Therefore, our goal is to engage 300 dads through 1-on-1 coaching, virtual meetups (#DadChats), and formal workshops to empower fathers to see themselves as caregivers, not just breadwinners.
