The Centro de Acolhida Betania (CAB) welcomes children and adolescents with difficult backgrounds coming from the suburbs of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We support these kids by offering them a place where they can learn, play and just be kids, as well as providing psychological support. Many of our kids come from vulnerable backgrounds and do not have always access to a proper meal. Therefore, another main mission of ours is to grant that each kid at the CAB is offered two proper meals a day.
The CAB welcomes daily approximately 170 children from the suburbs of Belo Horizonte. Each of these kids faces problems such as economic poverty, which often prevents them to get the right amount of food needed for their well-being. As a consequence, many of them show signs of malnutrition and poor growth. In order to solve this issue, we provide them with two balanced meals a day, to ensure they have a proper daily energy intake that allows them to face the day with the necessary strength.
We want to improve the living conditions of the children and adolescents of the CAB by providing them with educational, recreational, cohesion and social inclusion opportunities. We provide them with two balanced meals a day, with the aim of ensuring a proper daily diet. In addition to this, once a month we donate food parcels to families so that they can feed themselves properly even when they are not at school.
We show children and adolescents that they are in charge of their own destiny, even when coming from situations of potential vulnerability. We help them believe in their potential and in the possibility to rise out of poverty. In order to achieve this, we give them the space to cultivate their talents as well as the possibility of receiving a correct nutritional intake, which is necessary in order to face the day with the right amount of energy to learn and play.
