Rise in price of unimix causes extra need for kids
By Samira Lobby | Project Assistant
We are really happy because in the next few years we will have a large amount of students going to high school or vocational school. However, concentrating on studies is nearly impossible to do without the right nutrition which is why we are in need of providing unimix to these hardworking students. Unimix, which is a nutrient dense food has recently gone up in price. To continue giving the kids and their families these meals we will need major donations. We currently serve 46 kids and 66 guardians with HIV who are in extra need of this highly nutrient rich food. The need for them to have this nutrition for their immune system is incredibly important so that their anti-retrovirals can work properly and efficiently. Thank you for being a constant support to the many kids and guardians who are in need of the help so they can attempt to escape the poverish cycle in Kenya.

A dry, dejected drought.
By Diana Richardson | Project Leader
Unfortunately the drought in Kenya is treacherous. They cannot catch a break. Last year at this time, there was intense flooding which ruined the soil for food and this year, Kenya is experiencing an intense drought. This drought is ruining the lives of many Kenyans and livestock. Animals are suffering tremendously which means that Kenyans aren't even able to use their small amount of livestock as a resource. Chickens aren't laying eggs while goats and cows aren't producing milk because the animals are also suffering from hunger and thirst. Anything we can donate to the center will be a massive help to the many starving people and livestock. Thank you for your support. We wish this was a better report but the climate is changing and it is effecting Kenya very badly.

Urgent Need for Food Due to Drought in Kenya

Greens Are Served at Makindu
We continue to ask for your support to fight against malnutrition and starvation in Kenya. This is a time of severe and urgent need, with drought throughout Kenya having a terrible effect on crops - causing many families to miss meals or greatly reduce normal portions to try and get by.
Virtually all of the guardian families served by MCC have asked about the possibility of any relief food at their most recent visits. Some of the younger kids are too weak due to lack of food to make the long walk to schools or are too weak and fatigued to be alert and do well in their studies. Elderly and the children face the greatest risk at this time. Makindu Children’s Centre provides staples such as cooking oil, beans, and maize.
Your help and support for Makindu’s Global Giving Project to feed orphaned children is more important than ever. Your support has enable us to provide them with the new water pump and expanded solar power, so now the Centre will be able to expand the garden plots available to guardians where they can plant and grow fresh vegetables to augment the staples from the food baskets. We will continue our efforts to prevent future malnutrition, but must emphasize, that at this time the need is very immediate and life threatening to the house holds we serve. To provide a month's supply for our 300+ households, we must raise $7,000.00 very soon. Please consider even a small donation today, which will help this effort.
Thank you for supporting Makindu Children’s Program.
