Humanitarian Report: Feeding 40 Children in Goma

By AGIZO JOSUE | CORDINATOR

Project Context

In Goma, 40 blind and deaf children from rural areas live far from their families to attend specialized education at the Nguvu Yetu center. These vulnerable children face daily hunger and limited access to nutritious meals. Malnutrition affects not only their health but also their concentration and school performance. Without proper food support, their educational and professional future is at serious risk.

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to provide three balanced meals daily to these 40 children while creating a sustainable model of food self-sufficiency. To achieve this, we are implementing:

  • A vegetable garden and small poultry farm to produce local food.
  • Training staff in child nutrition and good dietary practices.
  • Regular monitoring of the children’s growth and health.

This project nourishes not only their bodies but also their minds, enabling them to learn and grow in a safe and dignified environment.

Approach and Activities

  1. Daily nutritious meals: three balanced meals adapted to the needs of blind and deaf children.
  2. Food self-sufficiency: establishing a vegetable garden and poultry farm to reduce reliance on external aid.
  3. Capacity building: training staff and raising awareness of nutrition and food hygiene.
  4. Community support: involving families and encouraging local participation to ensure sustainability.

Expected Impact

  • Improved health and growth for the children.
  • Better concentration and academic performance.
  • Reduced dependency on external food aid.
  • Creation of a replicable model for other specialized centers in the region.
  • Contribution to community empowerment and local food security.

Budget and Funding

The project requires a total budget of $15,000 USD. To date, thanks to collaboration with GlobalGiving, we have already raised $100 USD. Every contribution brings us closer to our goal and will enable the project to start in November 2025.

Current Phase

We are currently identifying trainers and beneficiary children. Logistical and educational preparations are underway to ensure an effective and well-structured project launch.

Call to Donors

We call on all donors and partners to support this high-impact initiative. Your contribution will not only feed these children but also give them a real chance at success and dignity. Together, we can transform their lives and inspire similar initiatives across the Goma region.

Acknowledgments

We sincerely thank all those who have already contributed to this project, as well as our partner GlobalGiving, whose support is making this initiative possible. Thanks to you, these children will have hope for a brighter future.
