Introduction
Dear Friends,
Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream without the burden of hunger. Thanks to the kindness of supporters around the world, our project Feed 40 Blind & Deaf Children in Goma is taking important first steps toward making that vision a reality.
At the Nguvu Yetu Center in Goma, 40 blind and deaf children from remote rural communities have found a place where they can receive specialized education and care. Yet for many of them, the greatest daily challenge remains access to nutritious food. Through this project, we are committed to ensuring that every child receives healthy meals that support both learning and healthy development.
Today, we are pleased to share our first progress update and sincerely thank everyone who has chosen to walk alongside us on this journey.
Context
The humanitarian situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo continues to place enormous pressure on vulnerable families. Rising food prices, prolonged insecurity, and widespread poverty have made nutritious meals increasingly difficult to afford.
The children living at the Nguvu Yetu Center are among the most vulnerable. Because they come from distant villages, they live away from their families in order to attend a school adapted to their needs. For many, the center is not only a place of education—it is their home.
Without reliable access to nutritious food, these children face serious risks of malnutrition, poor health, reduced concentration, and lower educational achievement. Adequate nutrition is therefore essential to protecting both their well-being and their future.
Project Goal
Our goal is to provide three nutritious meals each day for 40 blind and deaf children while creating a sustainable food system that will continue serving future generations of students.
Beyond meeting immediate nutritional needs, the project will strengthen the center's long-term resilience through nutrition training, vegetable production, and small-scale poultry farming.
Progress to Date
Although field activities are scheduled to begin in November 2025, meaningful preparation is already underway.
Current activities include:
These preparatory steps are laying a strong foundation for successful implementation and sustainable impact.
Funding Update
The total budget required to implement this project is US$15,000.
To date, we have raised US$243, thanks to the generosity of compassionate donors through our partnership with GlobalGiving.
While this represents only the beginning of our fundraising journey, every contribution has strengthened our determination to move forward. We remain confident that, together with GlobalGiving and our growing community of supporters, we will reach our fundraising goal and provide these children with the nutrition they deserve.
Every donation—large or small—brings us one step closer to transforming lives.
Expected Impact
With adequate funding, this project will:
Healthy children learn better. Better education creates stronger futures. This project is an investment in both.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming months, we will finalize implementation preparations so that project activities can officially begin in November 2025.
Our priorities include launching daily meal services, completing staff nutrition training, establishing the vegetable garden, and starting poultry production. These activities will create a sustainable source of nutritious food while reducing future operating costs for the center.
We look forward to sharing regular updates with our supporters as the project progresses and as the children begin to experience the benefits of improved nutrition.
Thank You
To every donor who has already supported this project, thank you.
Your generosity represents far more than a financial contribution. It tells these children that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten. Your compassion is helping create opportunities that will last far beyond a single meal.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to GlobalGiving for providing a trusted platform that connects our local work with compassionate people around the world. Through this partnership, hope is reaching children who need it most.
A Call to Continue Changing Lives
The journey is only beginning.
Many children at the Nguvu Yetu Center still depend on the generosity of caring people to receive the nutritious meals they need every day. With only a small portion of the project's funding secured, your continued support is more important than ever.
Together, we can ensure that no child has to choose between learning and hunger.
If you have already given, thank you for believing in these children. We invite you to continue sharing this project with your family, friends, and community.
If you are considering making your first gift, this is your opportunity to make a lasting difference. Your support will help provide nutritious meals, strengthen sustainable food production, and give 40 blind and deaf children the opportunity to learn, grow, and build brighter futures.
Together—with our dedicated supporters and our valued partnership with GlobalGiving—we are confident that we will reach our goal and transform lives, one child at a time.
Thank you for standing with us.
