Summary
During Eid-ul-Adha 2026, OBHIZATRIK Foundation implemented the “Feed a Family This Eid” initiative to provide fresh Qurbani meat to vulnerable and underprivileged families who often have little or no access to meat. The initiative aimed to reach 300 families in need and help them celebrate Eid with dignity and happiness.
With the generous support of donors and assistance from GlobalGiving, OBHIZATRIK Foundation was able to support approximately 250 vulnerable families living in an urban slum community and on the coastal island of Char Lata, Patuakhali, Bangladesh. The distribution provided families with fresh Qurbani meat during the Eid celebration, bringing both nutritional support and a sense of joy to their homes.
Challenge
For many extremely poor families in Bangladesh, Eid-ul-Adha is one of the few occasions when they may have an opportunity to eat meat. However, poverty, unemployment, limited income, and vulnerability to natural disasters often prevent these families from purchasing meat for their households.
Families living in urban slums and remote coastal communities such as Char Lata face particularly difficult living conditions. For these households, purchasing nutritious food is often a daily challenge, and many children may go without meat for long periods. As a result, Eid can pass without the food and celebration that many families look forward to.
Solution
To address this need, OBHIZATRIK Foundation organized the distribution of fresh Qurbani meat to vulnerable families during Eid-ul-Adha 2026. The initial target was to support 300 families in need.
Through generous donor contributions and support from GlobalGiving, the Foundation successfully reached approximately 250 families from an urban slum community and the coastal island of Char Lata in Patuakhali.
The Qurbani meat was distributed directly to selected vulnerable households, ensuring that families could receive fresh meat during Eid. The initiative prioritized families with limited income and those living in highly vulnerable communities.
Beyond providing food, the distribution also helped families feel included in the Eid celebration. Children in particular were very happy to receive the meat as an Eid gift, creating moments of excitement and happiness for families who often experience hardship.
Long-Term Impact
The “Feed a Family This Eid” initiative provided immediate nutritional support to approximately 250 vulnerable families, benefiting an estimated 1,000–1,250 individuals. The project enabled families to enjoy nutritious food during Eid and celebrate the occasion with greater dignity and happiness.
The initiative also strengthened community solidarity by connecting generous donors with families who are often excluded from festive celebrations due to poverty. The positive response from children and families demonstrated the emotional value of sharing Qurbani beyond its nutritional benefit.
In the longer term, initiatives like this contribute to improved food security for vulnerable households and strengthen OBHIZATRIK Foundation’s commitment to supporting underserved communities, particularly those living in urban slums and climate-vulnerable coastal areas.
