Keeping Our Kids Learning

By Rose Blanchard | Advisory Board Member

The closure of schools in Bangladesh have been extended to possibly mid-March due to the surge in Covid-19 cases. Children across the country have not been able to return to the classsroom since March 2020 which has many concerned about the negative effects on their education and well-being. While opportunities for remote learning have been offered through outlets such as television and smart phones, many families do not have access to these devices.

Despite the inequities in remote learning, students at Piet Van have remained dedicated to continuing their education. Students are able to pick up and drop off their class assignments at school and at the same time receive their family's monthly food pack. This quarter families received rice, dal, eggs, in-kind muffins, and protein bars.

In addition to the food packs, families also received blankets and sweaters to keep them warm during the winter months, thanks to a dynamic team of Thrive volunteers in Dhaka who launched the Northern Lights Project. Bangladesh winters can be very cold and this project aims to provide blankets and winter clothing to families in need across the country.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, can make a huge difference in these children's lives. With your support we are able to feed 120 amazing students and their families during a very challenging time. Thank you for being a part of our mission!
