This past January, PeaceTrees’ students and staff ushered in the lunar new year with the celebration of Tet! The national 6-day holiday is the most important festival of the year in Vietnam, celebrating love, the start of spring, and the best of hopes for the new year. PeaceTrees’ education assistance efforts share in this spirit of hope for the future.
PeaceTrees scholarship project was started in 2005 to support the children of Quang Tri parents who were in explosive ordnance accidents. Today, scholarships are awarded to female ethnic minority children, children impacted by an EO accident or living with a disability, and children experiencing financial hardships in both Quang Tri and Quang Bình. PeaceTrees scholarships fund a full year of school fees, textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, and additional administrative expenses that students would otherwise be unable to afford.
During the 2021-2022 school year, 101 scholarships were provided to students in accident survivor families from primary school to college/university, 49 scholarships were provided to ethnic minority female students in middle, high school and college/university, 15 scholarships were provided to students with disabilities or students whose parents have disabilities in primary, middle and high school, and 71 scholarships were provided to poor students in primary, middle, high school and college/university. In total, 236 scholarships were provided in Quang Tri for the 2021-2022 school year.
Community led growth and development is an integral part of PeaceTrees' work and we value the feedback from scholarship participants themselves who have shared with us the impact of their education support. Many students report the benefits of these scholarships have been “increased knowledge”, “easing family financial burden”, and “creating a brighter future for me and my family”, according to a PeaceTrees scholarship participant survey.
These incredibly valuable avenues of educational aid are made possible by the generous assistance and friendship of donors like you! Thank you for your support!
