Summary

The project will help feed and provide livelihood support through sustainable agriculture and economic empowerment to rebuild vulnerable families in Sri Lanka who are close to starvation due to the economic crisis following the Covid19 pandemic. This project will create small businesses and strengthen families to keep children out of orphanages. We'll provide nutritional food parcels, crops, resources, financial management and income generation training to provide good health/economic stability.

Challenge

Following the Covid19 pandemic, Sri Lanka is suffering its worst economic crisis since independence. Around 5.7million people and nearly half of its children need urgent humanitarian aid. 70% of households report reduced food consumption. Children are commonly fainting at school through malnourishment, and are at extremely high risk of trafficking and abandonment into harmful orphanages which TFT has actively worked hard to prevent over the past 17 years.

Solution

TFT will provide nutritious food parcels comprising rice, dhal, vegetables, eggs, milk powder, flour, sugar, biscuits, medicines, seeds, and soap to prevent starvation, and keep vulnerable children healthy and educated. Families will receive income generation and financial management training, as well as resources and support to set up small sustainable businesses. Schools and communities will receive economic empowerment through agricultural crop training, diet and advice on nutrition.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact will provide nutrition, sustainable livelihoods and futures to 100 poor disadvantaged families to help them stay healthy and together. This will enable up to 400 vulnerable children to maintain their education and prevent trafficking prostitution or separation into harmful orphanages, and isolated communities will be empowered by learning about climate change and agricultural practises to provide nourishment and good health to 3000 people.
