A New Beginning for Nalanthi’s Family

A few years ago, Nalanthi faced an impossible choice. Her serious heart condition left her unable to work, and she feared she would have to place her children in orphanages to give them a better chance at life. This was when TFT stepped in, providing her children with the education resources they needed, such as schoolbooks, to stay in school.

Despite our support, Nalanthi’s living conditions worsened. When we visited her home in 2022/23, we found it in a heartbreaking state: no electricity, no running water, and a leaking roof that made life unbearable during the monsoons. Tragically, a devastating fire soon destroyed the house entirely, leaving the family homeless and the children at further risk.

In their darkest hour, your generosity made all the difference. TFT secured immediate housing for Nalanthi and her family and provided ongoing rent support. We also discovered that Nalanthi owned a small piece of land, and with your help, we built her family a permanent home.

Today, Nalanthi and her children are thriving. Their beautiful new house has electricity, running water, and – for the first time – a shower and toilet. Nalanthi’s heart surgery was successful, and visiting the family last week, their joy was palpable.

However, their journey is not yet over. The fire stripped them of even the most basic household items – beds, cookware, furniture – everything needed to make a house a home. With your continued support, we can provide the fresh start Nalanthi’s family deserves.

Rebuilding Ranhul’s Business for a Sustainable Future

Ranhul’s family also faced incredible adversity. His son’s severe asthma and his daughter’s epilepsy require constant medical care, with the cost of medication alone exceeding 22,000 rupees per month. After losing his job during the COVID pandemic, the strain on the family became unbearable.

Determined to provide for his children, Ranhul started a business making beautiful, high-quality soft toys and fashion items. He employed four local women and secured a large order from Arpico, a major department store chain. But the long payment delays from Arpico – up to 60 days – destroyed his cash flow, forcing him to shut down his business and putting his family back in financial crisis.

We’re committed to helping Ranhul rebuild his business. He now has an order with a smaller company for 100 soft toys, with payment on delivery, which solves the cash flow issue. However, restarting production requires immediate funding for materials and wages.

Together, we can empower Ranhul to restart his business and ensure long-term sustainability for his family. By supporting him, we’re not just helping one family – we’re contributing to job creation and local economic growth in his community.
