CORESDI plans to empower 1000 Nyando women flood victims by putting in place early warning systems, humanitarian emergency support and capacity building on entrepreneurship, adaptive and alternative livelihoods. The project will provide Early Warning Systems, humanitarian aid to flood victims in the evacuation centres and train the beneficiaries on climate smart agriculture and technologies to guarantee food security and livelihoods.
Nyando flood plain has continued to experience very heavy rainfall and massive destructive floods which has recently been cited as one of the worst disasters resulting in displacement of over 32000 people. Most of the displaced persons operating from the centers are women, girls and the elderly who have lost their homes and livelihoods thus requiring humanitarian aid. The floods are perennial and the people living along the flood prone areas lack early warning systems to enable timely response.
The women will be empowered through provision of early warning systems, humanitarian aid and capacity building on entrepreneurship, climate smart agriculture, adaptive and alternative livelihood. Through the early warning systems the women will be getting timely weather forecast information for timely relocation. The humanitarian aid will go a long way in supporting the households from deaths due to hunger while the training will prepare them to be able to come out of poverty.
The project will empower 1000 women helping them to be able to get timely weather forecast information for adaptation. The humanitarian aid will support them from hunger whereas the capacity building will impact knowledge, skills and attitude change which will enable them to spring out from poverty cycles by engaging in sustainable income generating activities. Once women are empowered, they will help in educating their children and the long term impact is enhanced community development
