When Feeding Your Child Becomes a Daily Worry

By Khalid Abubakar | Project Leader

North Nigeria: Displaced children eating together
North Nigeria: Displaced children eating together

Dear Partners,

In Jos, Plateau State, Mary Sani holds her ten-month-old son with the same hope every mother has: that her child will grow, play and stay healthy.

But feeding a young child well has become harder for many families.

Mary recently shared with UNICEF how painful it can be for a mother to see her child losing weight or lacking the energy other children have. Her experience speaks to a wider problem across Plateau, where rising food costs, insecurity and loss of livelihoods are placing families under growing pressure.

For displaced families, the situation can be much worse.

When violence forces people to leave their communities, they may leave behind farms, stored food, livestock and the small businesses that once paid for their meals. A family that could feed itself yesterday may suddenly have to depend on relatives, host communities or humanitarian assistance.

This is why Feed Hungry and Displaced Families in Nigeria is raising funds to provide food and relief support to families affected by crisis and displacement.

As funds are raised, our team will meet affected families one-on-one to hear from them, understand their immediate needs and plan distributions so that assistance reaches the people it is intended for.

We are grateful to our donors, partners, volunteers and community supporters who continue to stand with families during difficult times.

If this appeal speaks to you, please share it on social media and with your friends and family. You can also become an individual fundraiser for this project on GlobalGiving and invite people in your own circle to help.

With love,
Khalid A.
