Over the past months (July to October), we have guaranteed food for the students in our 12 boarding schools in our development centres (Catholic missions). From July to the present day, we have sent from our logistic headquarters (Beira) 12.360 kg of beans, 83.750 kg of maize, 2.920 kg of sugar, 2.820L of oil and 840 kg of salt to the boarding schools.
1.480 students in the missions of Machanga, Mangunde, Estaquinha and Barada had 541.680 meals in total in the past 122 days. There students have three meals a day. From July to the present moment, 371.03 USD were donated through GlobalGiving, equivalent to 23,449.10 meticais (MZN). With this money we buy 1.300 kg of corn. This quantity feeds the students for one and a half days in all of our boarding schools.
Our boarding schools have students who come from very distant areas, where there aren’t schools that operate above grade 7. The mission's schools and boarding schools are the only opportunity for many students to continue their studies. Americo*, a student resident at the boarding school of Machanga, says, "Here I have access to accommodation and food, thanks to ESMABAMA's commitment. Living at the boarding school makes it possible for me to be close to the school."
