This project will provide daily meals to 250 Muslim orphans in Nigeria affected by conflict and poverty. Many have lost their parents and now survive with no steady access to food. Some live with disabilities and rely on others who have very little. Food is expensive, and hunger remains a serious problem. The primary beneficiaries of this project are persons living with disabilities, orphans, and disadvantaged women in Muslim-majority urban slums and underserved communities in Northern Nigeria.
The World Food Programme reports that over 345 million people worldwide now face severe hunger. In Nigeria, more than 25 million people are unable to get enough food. Those hit hardest include children without parents and women with no source of income. In many parts of Northern Nigeria, hunger has worsened due to insecurity, rising costs, and neglect. Muslim orphans and persons living with disabilities are left to survive in harsh conditions with little or no food.
This project will provide fresh meals each day to orphans, persons with disabilities, and others facing hunger. Meals will include rice, beans, porridge, and other local dishes, served with clean water or juice. Food will be prepared and distributed in a safe space. The feeding is part of an ongoing local effort to help those who have no steady access to meals, especially during religious seasons ( e.g. Sahoor and Iftaar meals), and other periods when hunger becomes harder to bear.
Regular meals help children stay alert and healthy while lowering the risk of begging, theft, or illness linked to hunger. For persons with disabilities and women with no income, food support brings calm and relief. The project also aligns with UN SDG 2: Zero Hunger, contributing to food stability, stronger communities, and long-term survival for families in fragile areas. t also helps reduce pressure on overcrowded shelters and overburdened food lines.
