They Had Food Until Violence Took Everything

By Elijah Osagie | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Many displaced families in Nigeria were once able to feed themselves.

They had farms where they grew maize, rice, beans, cassava and vegetables. Some raised chickens, goats or other livestock. Others ran small businesses or worked each day to put food on the table. They were not expecting to depend on humanitarian assistance.

Then violence forced them to leave.

For families fleeing an attack, survival comes first. There may be no opportunity to harvest crops, sell livestock, collect stored food or take household belongings. Some leave with their children and little more than the clothes they are wearing. What took years to build can disappear in a single day.

This loss is one reason hunger among displaced families requires urgent attention. The Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that 36.3 million people in Nigeria faced severe acute food insecurity during the June–August 2026 lean season. Conflict and insecurity have also displaced millions of people from communities where they once earned their living.

For a displaced parent without farmland, employment or regular income, providing the next meal can become a daily struggle.

Feed Nigerian Families in Crisis Facing Hunger was created to stand with families living through this reality. We plan to provide emergency food, cooking supplies, household items and temporary shelter to displaced families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

Food cannot replace a lost home. A temporary place to sleep cannot replace the community a family was forced to leave. But these things can help people survive while they work toward rebuilding their lives.

A food package means children can eat. A cooking stove means a parent can prepare a warm meal. A safe place to sleep means a family does not have to spend another night exposed to rain, cold or other dangers.

To our donors, thank you. Your kindness means that families going through some of their hardest days are being remembered.

Please continue sharing this project. Somewhere in Nigeria tonight, a parent who once provided for the entire family may now be wondering where tomorrow's food will come from.

Together, we can help make sure hunger is not another tragedy these families have to endure.
