Some Families Are Sleeping Under the Open Sky

By Elijah Osagie | Project leader

Mass exodus of displaced families
Mass exodus of displaced families

Dear Donors,

Thank you for remembering displaced Nigerian families who are struggling to find food and safe shelter.

For most of us, a roof over our heads is something we rarely think about.

For families displaced by violence, it can be the difference between a safe night and a night spent exposed to rain, cold and insects.

Some families have been forced to sleep under trees.

Some stay in makeshift grass shelters.

Others share overcrowded spaces with many other displaced people.

And while they are trying to find somewhere to sleep, they also have to think about their next meal.

More than 3.7 million people were internally displaced in Nigeria as of July 2026. Benue alone hosts at least 500,000 displaced people.

These families have already lost homes, farms, businesses and belongings.

They should not have to face hunger and unsafe shelter alone.

This project will provide emergency food, charcoal stoves, household supplies and temporary housing for displaced families.

Children, women and older people will receive special consideration when assistance is distributed.

As families recover, we also hope to support displaced children who have missed school through extra lessons.

Everyone deserves a safe place to sleep and enough food to face another day.

Thank you for helping us work toward that for families displaced by violence in Nigeria.

Please share this project with others who may be able to help.

With gratitude,
Elijah Osagie
