Let's make a difference - One plate at a time

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Friend,

We bring to you our latest report on "feed the poor and needy in Goa".

Feeding the poor and the needy is an important act of kindness and charity that reflects empathy and a sense of social responsibility.

By giving to those in need, whether it's through time, food, or financial support, we are helping to address an essential human need and foster a more compassionate society.

Despite Goa's economic growth and relatively higher per capita income compared to other Indian states, food insecurity persists. According to recent reports and surveys, hunger is not only about lack of food but also malnutrition and poor access to nutritious food. The situation affects children, women, and the elderly most acutely.

Hunger in Goa, though less visible than in many other parts of India, is a serious issue that deserves attention. In view of the hunger crisis, El Shaddai serves mid-day meals to the underprivileged children. Nutritious and home cooked meals are served to the underprivileged children on a daily basis. Our mission is to bring about “zero hunger” and give every child its basic right. Every day 700 children receive food from the mid-day meal programme in Goa. Every month 21,000 meals are distributed to the underprivileged children.

We have a beautiful story of a little girl named Reema (name changed). She and her brother were found begging on the streets of Panjim. Her mother is an alcoholic and often sleeps on the pavements and is not taking care of the children. Every money they received through begging was used by the mother to purchase alcohol. So the children used to remain hungry for days. One day the outreach worker of “Ashadeep Day care shelter’ found these children crying with hunger and they were immediately taken to the shelter and from there to our homes. They were offered warm food, clean clothes and a bed. They are so happy now for they have finally found a place they can call home. There are many children like these who are waiting to change their lives.

We extend our gratitude for your generous donations through which we were able to provide food to the poor and needy.

Your donation has made a huge impact and aided us in transforming lives to a better one.

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

With Gratitude

Sincerely

El Shaddai Family
