Understanding the importance of good nutrition to promote healthy lives, Fight with Insight invested in a catering grade kitchen. This project will support the groceries, equipment and cooking classes required to run a kitchen serving 150 inner city children restaurant quality super foods that promote good health and taste delicious. It will also strive to support these children's families with access to food.
Far from the means of production in agricultural areas food is a scarce resource. For inner city children this generally means that there is not enough food, or access to the correct type of food to meet their developmental needs. The result is children who are undernourished and as a result underdeveloped, which leads to weakened immunity, lower energy levels, poor school performance, chronic illness, brain damage and links to violence and emotional problems.
Fight with Insight is proposing to feed children a more diverse range of nutrition rich affordable and accessible food. We will also teach a group of adolescents to cook and run guest nutrition education sessions with the group while cooking and the broader group while eating. This will expand our daily nutrition programme, whilst teaching a skill and providing nutritional knowledge that can be taken into children's homes.
Children's improved access to nutritious food will lead to the development of healthy bodies and healthy minds, that improve their capacity to achieve good results at school, and promotes better employment opportunities, ultimately contributing to breaking the cycle of poverty in their family.
