Martin came to the Albergue because his mother does not have enough money to take care of his nutrition and education. Martin and his two sisters live only with their mother since their father abandoned them when they were very young. At the age of 5, when he was accepted at the Albergue, Martin's weight and height were very low and he was diagnosed with malnutrition. As a result, he was integrated into the Albergue's Integral Nutrition Program.
Malnutrition had a significant impact on Martin's development leaving consequences such as cognitive lag, low energy and lack of motivation to perform his daily activities, and also constant visits to the doctor because he is frequently sick. Before entering the Albergue, he only ate 1 or 2 meals a day with a very low nutritional value because he and his little sisters were left alone at home while their mother went to work.
His stay at the Albergue is essential to continue with his integral development and health care. The possibility of having three meals a day and two snacks based on a healthy and balanced eating plan, helps them to achieve their appropriate height and weight for their age and to reduce their visits to the doctor. In addition, his school and physical activities performance has improved since he has more energy to complete them.
With your donations you will help more children as Martin to have a healthy diet, and in the long term, to reduce the risk of disease, reduce obesity and malnutrition rates, and contribute to restore one of their main rights: food accessibility, a key element to live a healthy, balanced and happy childhood.
