PID-Uganda proposes to support 50 women affected by armed conflict in northern Uganda. The purpose of the action is to improve household income opportunities, welfare and self-reliance. the goats and its product will be sold in a local market in northern Uganda; where it highly demanded, this will enable the beneficiary women to acquire basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing and social services such as education and health care including household assets e.g. bicycles
Northern Uganda has been a site for political struggle for 3 decades, Women were at the epicenter of the brunt. Over 20,000 women were abducted, conscripted, used as sex slaves and majority came back with children fathered by the rebel commanders. These group of women missed formal education and better opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge to improve on their welfare, they are unable to support their families with basic needs such as food clothing, education and cannot access health care
The project will train the women to provide them with knowledge and skills in local goats rearing and techniques, and support them with 2 goats per women to start rearing, the goats are expected to multiply and be sold to improve on the living conditions of the beneficiary women, so that they are able to acquire household assert such as bicycles, send their children to schools, access medical health care services, along site improving basic standard such as food clothing, shelter etc.
The project will educate 50 women, helping them rise out of poverty since they will be able to provide for their basic family needs including health care services/well-being and household asset acquisition, the women will replicate those knowledge on goats' rearing and this will be copied by the entire communities in Amuru district - northern Uganda.
