The current climate poses challenges for marginalized women to gain access to feminine hygiene products. Aarogya Seva will be procuring resources to create and distribute female sanitary kits to marginalized communities, such as slum dwellers, homeless individuals, and daily-wage and migrant workers. The kits will contain 2 packets of sanitary pads (1 month supply), 1 bottle of sanitizer/ soap and 1 reusable cotton mask or 3 disposable masks.
The current COVID-19 pandemic poses challenges for marginalized women to gain access to feminine hygiene products due to a cessation of economic income and inability to travel easily to facilities that supply menstrual products due to the lockdown. Maintaining proper hygiene during menstruation is salient in preventing vaginal infections and lethal health conditions. According to the India National Family Health Survey, 42% of girls do not use hygienic materials during menstruation.
Aarogya Seva will be procuring the resources for female sanitary kits to be distributed to marginalized communities. We have begun by conducting a needs assessment of marginalized communities via a partnership with NGOs. At present, we have a waiting list for over 10,000 recipient women growing daily.
Our distribution of sanitary kits will provide 10,000 marginalized women with the resources to manage their menstrual cycles hygienically during the COVID-19 pandemic. With access to proper sanitary products, the health of marginalized women will be supported.
