Children living in poverty and helping their parents in brick production is a common picture in San Isidro, a district outside of Perus second-largest city Arequipa. The goal of Intiwawa is to contribute to the integral development of the children and their parents and encourage them to improve their living standards and fulfil their dreams as well as to fight widely spread domestic violence and child labour.
Child labour and domestic violence are sadly common in San Isidro. A minimum income without insurance or securities leads to a situation where most families live in conditions of poverty which cause water pollution and health problems. Many children help their parents with working in brick production after school instead of doing their homework or playing. As a consequence the mayority of the children isn't able to break out of this vicious circle due to their low level of education.
The mission of Intiwawa is to contribute to the integral development of the children including - Educational support (homework and further clases in maths, communication and english) - Health promotion (health checks, visits to the dentist, nutritious food) - Strenghtening socio-cultural values (creative workshops and cultural projects) - Empowering the parents (parent school to fight domestic violence and child labour)
The vision of Intiwawa is to provide tools for the children of today to achieve an autonomous community of tomorrow, where Intiwawa as an organization is no longer needed.
