Summary

The United Nations Organization determined Egypt's ranking on the fourth level in the spread of FGM phenomenon in 2018. The project targeted area is Omrania district which recorded a extremely high FGM record which reaches 88%. The project aims to eliminate FGM in the targeted area (5000 girls lives will be saved during the project in its first year) through Establishing a medical unit ,Raising the public awareness,Combating FGM practitioners"Midwives&Health Barbers" and saving hundreds of lives

Challenge

UNICEF displays shocking statistics in studies about FGM in Egypt,The studies show that 91% of Egyptian females in the 15-49 age group have undergone FGM,while some regions reaches 88% such as in Omrania district where we intend to undertake the project,as between 5000 to 7000 girls being circumcised yearly in this region most of theses processes were carried out by Midwives and Health Barbers without any kind of safety or sterilization conditions and without any anesthetic(psychological shock)!

Solution

The Project will help in saving hundreds of girls lives through Establishing anti FGM medical protection unit in the region (24 hours/7 days) it will give the help to 12000 to 15000 girls yearly,Conducting 30 plastic surgery "Deformation" to 30 seriously mutilated circumcised girls/ 6 Incentive projects to Midwives and Health Barbers that work widely in the region/ a full awareness program including 10 sessions,creating and training of 50 community leaders,10000 anti FGM publications/home visits

Long-Term Impact

Fighting FGM Project will reduce the percentage of FGM to be between 15% to 20% max,in one year -Estimated saved girls are 5000 girls every year -Estimated 30 plastic surgery will be conducted in the first year -A trained Community leaders are Opposing all forms of discrimination against women -The Medical Unit will continue serving thousands of girls yearly.The project will create a new generation of girls enjoying a body integrity protection Without mental, physical or neurological disease
