On September 18, 2022, Puerto Rico was hit once again by a natural disaster. Hurricane Fiona caused catastrophic and historic flooding throughout the Island. A total blackout is currently affecting the Island and there are dozens of isolated areas without access or communication. On this date, 5 years ago, Hurricane Maria caused extreme damage from which Puerto Rico was still recovering.
Historic flooding throughout the island has caused sectors and municipalities to be cut off. The Island's weak electrical system has suffered multi-million dollar damage and the Island is experiencing a general blackout.
Puerto Rico Rises, together with its allied organizations, carries out a damage assessment and activates its response program by providing water, hygiene items, tents,s and solar lamps to hundreds of families.
It is reported that it will take weeks to repair power lines in addition to the damage caused by the general flooding across the Island. Businesses and agriculture have been catastrophically damaged.
