Summary

Uganda is home to some of the highest risk Landslide / Mudslide and flooding Hotspots in Mount Elgon sub region (Eastern Uganda), Teso sub region, and Rwenzori region / Western Uganda often with heavy rains that trigger deadly mudslides and floods in regions, killing and displacing thousands with over 2.3 Million people affected since 2020, and destroying homes, roads, crops, critical infrastructure, and water sources. This fund will support urgent aid and long-term recovery in affected regions.

Challenge

Since 2020, Uganda has experienced increased devastating mud/landslide and flooding affecting over 2.3 Million people leading to deaths, destruction of critical infrastructure and livelihoods, and displacements of thousands of people annually in the Hotspots of Mount Elgon sub region, Teso sub region and Rwenzori region often with heavy rains that trigger deadly mudslides and floods. Communities need urgent support for shelter, food, safe drinking water, and clothing in the aftermath.

Solution

The Flood and Landslide Relief & Early Recovery Fund will support emergency response efforts, including those in Mt. Elgon, Teso and Rwenzori Regions. Immediate relief will include search and rescue assistance, medical care, food, clean water, and temporary shelter. In the long term, your contribution will help rebuild homes and infrastructure and support local, community-led recovery efforts - especially those focused on marginalized and underserved populations most impacted by the disaster.

Long-Term Impact

Beyond emergency relief, the project is an investment in dignity, safety, and recovery providing decent temporary housing will not only address a priority shelter need and improve living conditions for displaced families. Your donation will be used to provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people and animals support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families and opportunities to empower themselves.
