Zikomo kwambiri — thank you so much. Because of you, families hit by devastating floods are not just surviving, they’re starting to rebuild.
What your donations achieved this quarter
1. Emergency relief: We distributed food packs of maize flour, beans, cooking oil, and soap to displaced households sheltering in schools and churches around Lunzu and Mapazi. No child went to bed hungry.
2. Safe shelter support: We provided tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, and iron sheets to families so they could repair roofs and walls before the heaviest rains. This kept families together and out of crowded camps.
3. Recovery farming inputs: As waters receded, we gave drought-tolerant seeds and tools to farming families so they can replant and avoid a hunger crisis later this year.
4. Health & dignity kits: Women and girls received buckets, water guard, and hygiene supplies to prevent cholera and protect their dignity during displacement.

Meet Patuma
Patuma, 34, and her 5 children lost everything when the Likhubula River flooded their home in January. “We ran with only the clothes we had,” she said. For 3 weeks they slept on a classroom floor. With your help, Chinseu CBO gave Patuma food, a tarpaulin, and maize seed. She’s now back on her plot, her roof is patched, and her maize is sprouting. _“You reminded us we are not alone,”_ Patuma told us.
Challenges we faced
Access roads to Mapazi were cut off for 2 weeks, delaying aid. Seed prices also rose 30% due to high demand. We partnered with local leaders to use bicycles and ox carts to reach the hardest-hit villages, and we prioritized female-headed households.
What comes next
With your continued support, May - July 2026 we will:
1. Train 40 women in backyard gardening for nutrition and income
2. Work with youth groups to plant 1,000 trees along riverbanks to prevent future flooding
3. Conduct home visits to monitor child nutrition and school returns
