Flooding in Peru Disaster Relief = 70K+ homeless

Summary

At least 70+ people have died and more than 70,000 have become homeless as Peru's rainy season has delivered 10 times as much rainfall than usual. About half of Peru has been declared in emergency to expedite resources to the hardest hit areas, mostly in the north where rainfall has broken records in several districts. Peru is bracing itself for more flooding. VIDA has relief supplies in Lima that are directed where needed immediately. Plus we have supply containers ready to ship to Peru.

Challenge

Over 50% of Peru is in emergency status. Over 70,000 are homeless as of this posting. More rain and flooding is expected - critical demand for medical supplies is rising.

Solution

VIDA has disaster relief supplies ready to go in Lima. We are working with local authorities for distribution. We need supplies shipped from the U.S. immediately. We are prepared to act quickly - shipping several containers jammed with donated medical supplies and life saving equipment. We need funding to send the supplies south as soon as possible. Please support life saving actioins

Long-Term Impact

El Nino is likely to hit Peru throughout 2017. We expect the demand for medical supplies to increase. The U.S. weather agency has put the chances of an El Nino developing in the second half of 2017 at 50-55 percent.
