Last January 28th, PSF went into the National Park of Bogota to set up a big distribution of solidarity baskets. Our goal: to provide food aid to 650 families of the Emberá indigenous community settled in the National Park.
Since September 29th, 2021, hundreds of families of the Embera community decided to settle in the Bogotá National Park to ask institutions to accompany them in their return to their land and to guarantee their safety. In their place of origin, violent acts and intimidations are caused by armed groups looking to control these territories. Thus, the upsurge of violence has created a new cycle of forced internal displacement in Colombia.
The refugee population has no access to an effective sanitation and hygiene system. Due to the rain and cold, two children were taken to medical centers because of respiratory diseases and another 60 minors are in a delicate state of health.
In response to this humanitarian emergency, PSF Foundation organized, with the help of comunity leaders, a day of distribution of solidarity baskets, were made of fresh organic fruits and vegetables and processed products: oil, rice, bananas, carrots, oranges, lentils, oignons, coffee, flour, potatoes, tomatoes, toothpaste, hygienic paper...
Two weeks before the delivery, the call for volunteers was published on our social media pages. The help of volunteers was very precious for our team. Thanks to them, we were able to set up our distribution in the best conditions.
Once again, we want to thank our GlobalGiving Community and all of our donnors for their support and help.
Stay tuned for our next reports and actions on the field!
