On Saturday March 26th, 2022, our Foundation Proyectar Sin Fronteras went to two districts of Bogotá for our monthly distribution of food to the most in need. For the month of March, we chose the neighborhoods of Las Cruces (in the historical center) and Kennedy, a densely populated area located in west of Bogota. Our objective was to contribute to the food security of urban populations and strengthen the autonomy of agro-ecological producers in Bogotá-Region through the purchase of fresh food such as fruits and vegetables.
The target audience was the Venezuelan immigrant population of Las Cruces and elderly people without family support of Kennedy. Both groups are (for different reasons) in an alarmingly precarious and economically deprived situation. This month, we have distributed 100 solidarity markets, as always made of fruits, vegetables and dry products, which are parts of the traditional Colombian basket (including coffee, oil, rice...).
These field visits and concrete actions are an opportunity for us to meet the people we help and to put faces on a social reality: the poverty and loneliness of many inhabitants of the capital, who depend on the informal economy to survive, often without knowing what tomorrow will bring.
The week before the delivery, the call for volunteers was published on our social media pages. The help of volunteers was very precious for our team. Thanks to them, we were able to set up our distribution in the best conditions.
Once again, we want to thank our GlobalGiving Community and all of our donors for their support and help.
Stay tuned for our next reports and actions on the field!
